Holds Policy

POLICY STATEMENT

In order to provide access to library materials at all locations, library users may place holds on materials via the online catalogue and have them sent to any branch of the Worcester Public Library.

REGULATIONS

1. Library users must have a valid network or WPL library card in order to reserve circulating library materials.

2. The maximum number of holds a patron may have on his record at one time is 20.

3. Holds may be placed on any of the Library’s branch items as well as any of Massachusetts network libraries’ items.

4. Library users with an account balance greater than $10 may not reserve materials.

5. Holds may be placed in person, by telephone or online.

6. E-mail or text message is the preferred method to notify the patron of a hold. Otherwise, the patron will be contacted by phone.

7. The library will only notify users of available holds once. Relay of the message to the appropriate person in the household is the responsibility of the card holders.

8. Holds placed through the library automation system will be held for 7 days.

9. A library user may have a friend or relative pick up his/her hold items only if the designated person has the user’s library card. Without the card, staff members are not permitted to give the hold items to another person.

10. In compliance with Massachusetts statute and the Library’s Privacy Policy, the Library will not provide information about a patron’s library record to anyone except the patron or by court order.
