OverDrive FAQs

What is OverDrive?
OverDrive is a digital distributor of eBooks, audiobooks, and other digital content. Through OverDrive, C/WMars, our library network, has purchased over 3,000 ebooks and eaudiobooks so all C/Wmars libraries can access those titles. In addition to the titles bought by C/WMars, Worcester Public Library has purhased more titles for Worcester users through the OverDrive Advantage Program. To see the 'Advantage' titles that are available for you to check out or place on hold, you must log in to your account.

How many titles can i check out at any given time?
Seven titles.

How many days do I get to keep titles I check out?
Lending periods can vary from title to title. Normally they are either 7 days or 14 days. Additionally, you can set personalized default lending period(s) on a format-by-format basis at the 'Lending Periods' page.

Can I return items early?
Adobe® eBooks can be returned using Adobe Digital Editions. Kindle books can be returned using your Amazon Manage your Kindle section. EPUB ebooks can be returned using OverDrive Media Console v2.3 (or newer) for Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone/iPad.

Can I Renew OverDrive titles?
No. OverDrive Titles cannot be renewed and those checkout titles will be expired on your PC or device. But you can check them out again if they are available.

What file formats does OverDrive offer?
For eBooks, it offers epub, pdf, and Kindle format. For eAudiobooks, it offers Windows Media Audion (WMA) or MP3.

Older generations of iPhone cannot run the Overdrive App, but you can manually transfer eAudiobooks to them with a computer.  Click here to see instructions.

Where does Overdrive save downloaded audiobook files?
In older, Windows 7 compatible versions of the desktop application, Overdrive will download an MP3 to the user's Documents folder, as mentioned in the instructions for older iPhones on this page.
