Playscape at the Library

The Playscape is a rotating early learning environment where children and their caregivers can engage in playful learning scenarios!

Each Playscape will provide toys and activities that encourage creativity, imagination, cooperation, language development and social and emotional skill development.

The Playscape is currently available at the Main Library, and all WPL Branches have Playscape carts.

Come play with us!

Play is joyful!

Play is learning!

Play:

• Encourages exploration

• Helps children learn to self-regulate, cooperate and communicate

• Improves focus

• Builds confidence and resiliency

• Releases energy and develops physical strength

• Helps children discover their interests

• Is fun!

Tips to help you engage with your child while keeping play child-centered:

• Observe your child playing

• Allow them to choose their play materials freely

• Let them explore how to use toys on their own

• Ask open questions and “what if?” questions

• Name items they pick up

• Repeat what they say, and add new vocabulary words

• Share your child’s curiosity by joining them in play without directing the activity

This project is supported by federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
