World Languages

The Worcester Public Library is committed to providing for the needs of the over 35% of Worcester residents who speak a language other than English at home. The adult World Languages collection, located on the 1st floor of the Main Library, reflects the diverse languages and cultures of the community by actively maintaining collections of books and periodicals for adults in 14 languages common in Worcester. The Library focuses on popular fiction and non-fiction materials, of use to or providing entertainment for both new immigrants and longtime residents wishing to read in their native languages, and gladly accepts donations of materials for all ages in Albanian, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

There is also a robust collection of children's materials and bilingual materials in various languages in the Pappas Children's Center on the third floor of the Main Library. Films in non-English languages are shelved in the Audiovisual area.

Current World Language Collections at the Main Library

Can't get to the Main Library? Remember, you can place a hold on any book to have it sent to the location closest to you, or to our Mobile Libraries Libby and Lilly! We are also making efforts to improve our electronic World Language Collections in Overdrive.

Our largest adult collection, with over 2,300 books, is Spanish (español/castellano). Tenemos una colección grande de libros en español, entre ellos obras clásicas, bestsellers recientes, libros de recetas, biografías y libros informativos sobre cualquier sujeto. También ofrecemos acceso en línea a libros electrónicos en español a través de Overdrive.
